Community Partnership
Hampton, NB, Canada - Piggs Peak Swaziland

An AIDS epidemic, on a scale unknown anywhere else in the world, is devastating Swaziland. In the face of their suffering, the Swazi people cling to an ideal they call “buntfu”, the essence of humanity that tells us we are all connected and should care for each other.

In Hampton, we are proud of our community spirit and we know that, as humans, our community is the world. Our neighbours are not only the people next door but also the people of Africa, the people of Swaziland...the people of Piggs Peak. In the spirit of buntfu, we are compelled to care for our neighbours.

Hope in Action

In 2011, the Partnership paid school fees for 72 high school students.

Girls latrine constructed to help with gender inequality.

Proceeds of the annual Coffee House for Swaziland go toward the Tyler Henderson Swaziland Scholarship of Hope.

Funds were raised for irrigation equipment, fencing, fertilizer, seeds, and a rototiller to be shared within the community.

We paid for new playground equipment which was installed throughout the town of Piggs Peak.

Our purchase of equipment for mobile HIV testing has improved accessibility to HIV testing and counseling for the people of Piggs Peak.

We help the needy people in Piggs Peak by providing food, clothing, shoes, books, and school bags. Sometimes it’s the little things that are most appreciated.

News from John Lovett

  • Are we making an impact....you decide

I recently received a letter from Nonhlanhla, she was one of the last students you added to the Hampton list. She is a double orphan having lost both of her parents when she was quite young. She has no siblings and lives with an aunt and before she received the support of Hampton felt quite alone in the world.

  • Christmas 2011 message

Hello all in Hampton, Had a great Christmas Eve party with twenty eight children from Macambeni. We took them to the Orion Hotel where they danced and sang for the hotel guests and had a good meal after which they each received a small gift. Many of these children have never been more than a few kilometres from their homes so it was a wonderful experience for them and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

  • Progress Report - Latrine

We more often than not see Africa as a continent of hungry if not starving children. Whilst it is important that our efforts should primarily focus on helping Africans towards becoming independent and self sustaining so that feeding the hungry will eventually....

Help to the unfortunate is a two way street. Both sides are winners.

  • Swaziland December 2010

“I have been requested to pass on the gratitude and thanks of the families we have been able to help this Christmas. These are families - with only a meal of thin maize...

"The partnership between the Town of Hampton and Piggs Peak in Swaziland is exactly the kind of response that needs to happen to beat the pandemic. You can't imagine what it means to a community in Africa to know that they have the support and assistance of Canadians."
Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa

We believe it is important to keep the Hampton community up to date on what is happening in the Hampton-Piggs Peak Partnership.

Help Wanted !!

The Hampton-Piggs Peak Partnership was established in 2005. Since that time, the partnership has put hope into action in many ways. Through the tremendous support of the community, we are now raising enough money to keep 80 students in school as well as supporting many other projects in Piggs Peak, Swaziland.

And we want to do more! Would you like to be part of changing the lives of our Swazi neighbours? The Partnership is looking for people to join our Fundraising Committee and Communications Committee in a volunteer capacity.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact committee member Jill Darrah at sjdarrah@nb.sympatico.ca or, in the evening, at 832-0815.
