Annual Coffee House keeps getting better and better!!

Another year ended on a high note for the Hampton-Piggs Peak Partnership with the success of the fifth annual Coffee House for Swaziland on December 14. A record crowd filled the Hampton High School cafeteria and were treated to an evening of extremely enjoyable musical entertainment provided by the HHS Choir; Gillian Urquhart; Derek Doucet and Aaron Boudreau; Ryan Harley; Glenn Hall, Sandy McKay, and Bill Preeper; Dylan and Darren Farrell; Emily Petley; Allan Gallant, Stacey Field and Jamie Jack; Emily Carlson and Andrew Conrad; Sean Buchanan and Alan Gamble; and Jessica Rhaye. Those in attendance were also introduced to Suwele Dlamini, a visitor from Swaziland.

From start to finish the talent was amazing! Thank you to all the gifted performers and to emcees Kyrsti Boye and Patrick Kelly who kept everything running smoothly. A special thanks to Laura Myers and the rest of the HHS representatives of the Partnership who were largely responsible for organizing the event. The proceeds of the coffee house will go toward the Tyler Henderson Swaziland Scholarship of Hope, an annual scholarship awarded to students at Fundukuwela High School who best embody and inspire the spirit of hope that will lead the students and the community out from under the cloud of AIDS. This past year the scholarships were presented to five top students at FHS - Mlamuli Mnisi, Precious Dlamini, Tenele Khumalo, Thandaza Masuku, and Celucolo Vilakati. It is only with our help that these young men and women will be pursuing higher education at the University of Swaziland.

As we enter 2010, we are greatly encouraged by the support of the people and organizations in and around Hampton. As an example, last week the Partnership received a donation of $1,000 from Church of the Ascension Anglican Church Women. This contribution, and the many more like it, will allow us to expand the work we are doing in helping to alleviate the impact of HIV/AIDS in Piggs Peak. Thank you to Church of the Ascension and to all the other generous people who have supported our endeavours over the past year.

With fundraising events, the Tyler Henderson Swaziland Scholarship of Hope, and regular contributions from citizens of Hampton, we are making positive changes in our partner community of Piggs Peak. Furthermore, our new Starfish Program will allow you to form a one-to-one relationship with a student we are helping in Piggs Peak. With your help, in 2010 we will do more than we have ever done before. If you would like to make a donation or would like to join our Starfish Program by sponsoring student fees, please visit our website at www.hamptonpiggspeak.ca or contact Mark Bettle at 832-0003.
